Nonmonotonic Reasoning Based on Incomplete Logic
نویسندگان
چکیده
What characterizes human reasoning is the ability of deal ing with incomplete information Incomplete logic is developed for modeling incomplete knowledge The most distinctive feature of incomplete logic is its se mantics This is an alternative presentation of partial semantics In this paper we will introduce the general notion of incomplete logic ICL compare it with partial logic and give the resolution method for it We will also show how ICL can be applied to nonmonotonic reasoning We de ne nonmonotonic deriva tion as monotonic derivation in ICL from the database and some consistent assumptions The mechanism of ICL makes it easy to assert the consistency of an assumption without asserting the assumption itself

Revising Nonmonotonic Theories: The Case of Defeasible Logic
The revision and transformation of knowledge is widely recognized as a key issue in knowledge representation and reasoning. Reasons for the importance of this topic are the fact that intelligent systems are gradually developed and refined, and that often the environment of an intelligent system is not static but changes over time. Traditionally belief revision has been concerned with revising f...

متن کاملToward Efficient Default Reasoning
2 Activities and Findings Our objective was to study a novel, approximation-based, approach to tractable nonmonotonic reasoning. Despite the critical role of nonmonotonicity in most human reasoning tasks, current nonmonotonic reasoning formalisms are inherently undecidable in the general case, and are intractable in all but the most restrictive cases. To address this intractability, we combined...
متن کاملOn the Dynamics of Default Reasoning
Default logic is a prominent rigorous method for reasoning with incomplete information based on assumptions. It is a static reasoning approach, in the sense that it doesn't reason about changes and their consequences. On the other hand, its nonmonotonic behaviour appears when changes to a default theory are made. This paper studies the dynamic behaviour of default logic in the face of changes. ...
متن کاملA Compositional Reasoning System for Executing Nonmonotonic Theories of Reasoning
An agent that is reasoning about the world often needs to draw (defeasible) conclusions that are not logically entailed by its (incomplete) knowledge about the world. Nonmonotonic reasoning systems can be used to model these reasoning patterns. Implementations of agents that can reason in a defeasible manner need to include an implemented nonmonotonic reasoning system. In different applications...
